Monterey >> After a string of property thefts from vehicles, police are cautioning people in Monterey to take steps to prevent the crimes from continuing.

On Sunday, Monterey police investigated 11 thefts and burglaries from locked and unlocked vehicles in the Alameda, San Bernabe and Monterey Circle neighborhoods. Police investigated several more thefts Monday in the Via Del Pinar neighborhood.

The Monterey Police Department issued three tips to prevent the crimes:

• Park vehicles in well-lit areas and make sure the doors are locked.

• Do not leave valuables in vehicles. If you must do so, make sure they are not in plain sight.

• Be aware of and report suspicious persons and vehicles in your area.

Police encourage residents to call 911 when they witness suspicious activities. Anyone with information on the thefts can call 831-646-3830.
