Soberanes Fire 100% contained
posted about 4 years ago by CERV from Community Emergency Response Volunteers of the Monterey Peninsula
This is from Big Sur Kate's blog 10/13/16. A big shout out to Big Sur Kate....her information has been timely, accessible, and much appreciated by our communities. Thank you. She says this is her last daily update.
MontereyCo.Recovers.org organizations continue to make every effort to help folks who were impacted by the fire so together we can build resilient communities.
The fire is now at one-hundred percent containment and will move into patrol status. Crews continue to work towards fully controlling the fire by mopping up and extinguishing hot spots. Smoldering areas within the interior will continue to put up smoke. The fire will be determined completely controlled (out) after a season-ending rain event occurs. Dozer and hand line repairs are being conducted in the north and south zones. Seventy-nine percent of suppression repair work is now complete with 297 out of 384 miles repaired and 81 miles left. Work around Arroyo Seco is expected to be completed in a few days. South Central Sierra Incident Management Team assumed command today at 6:00 am. Fire camps at Andrew Molera and Rana have been dismantled and relocated to King City. The Incident Command Post at Toro Park is scheduled to begin breakdown and relocation throughout the week. The Monterey Ranger District of the Los Padres National Forest remains closed to public access. The only recreation sites that remain open are Plaskett Creek and Kirk Creek Campgrounds, Pfeiffer Beach, Sand Dollar Beach and Willow Creek Day Use areas. All trails are closed within the Ventana and Silver Peak Wilderness Areas. This will be the final daily update for the Soberanes Fire.
